Privacy Policy for ShadowGuard
Last Updated: December 5, 2025
ShadowGuard ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how our Chrome Extension functions and how we handle your data. Our core philosophy is Privacy by Design.
Summary: ShadowGuard operates as a local sanitization layer. We do not transmit your chat contents, prompt inputs, or personally identifiable information (PII) to our servers. All redaction happens locally on your device.
1. Data We Collect
We believe in data minimization. We only collect the minimum amount of data required to provide the service and monitor its stability.
- Usage Analytics (Metadata): We may collect anonymous usage statistics, such as the total number of prompts scanned and the count of redactions performed. This data allows us to display usage volume in the Admin Dashboard. It is aggregated and does not contain the content of the prompts.
- Account Information: If you register for a Team Plan, we collect your email address and authentication details to manage your subscription and login.
2. Data We DO NOT Collect
To ensure total privacy, the following data is processed exclusively on your local device and is never sent to ShadowGuard servers:
- Prompt Content: The text you type into ChatGPT or Claude is processed in your browser's memory to identify PII. We do not store or transmit this text.
- Redacted PII: Sensitive data (such as names, credit card numbers, or emails) detected by the extension remains on your device. We do not log or store this specific information.
- Browsing History: We do not track your browsing history outside of the specific AI platforms (chatgpt.com, claude.ai) required for the extension to function.
3. Permissions & Technical Security
Our extension requires specific permissions to function. Here is how they are used:
- Host Permissions (chatgpt.com, claude.ai): Required to read the text input box to perform the "find and replace" sanitization. This access is strictly limited to these domains.
- Storage: Used to save your settings (e.g., which PII categories to redact) locally in your browser.
- ActiveTab: Used to verify the extension's status on the current page.
4. Third-Party Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your data to outside parties. We do not use your data for lending purposes or creditworthiness checks.
5. Compliance
GDPR & CCPA: Because we do not process your PII on our servers, ShadowGuard is designed to help you maintain compliance with GDPR and CCPA regulations regarding data minimization and security.
6. Changes to This Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.
